Consumers 'should take care' when buying travel insurance online

People who are buying travel insurance should take care and make sure their policy covers them adequately, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA).

Graeme Trudgill, the body's technical and corporate affairs executive, said that while many offers on the internet are cost effective, some of them have very low limits on the loss of baggage, money and medical expenses.

He explained: "A lot of people don't realise that you have to disclose pre-existing medical conditions, and they don't realise they have to say if they're doing any horse riding or any hazardous things like that.

"Some of the online policies are very cheap and not that good. Just be cautious – get your broker to make sure you're covered for what you need to be covered for."

BIBA is one of the UK's leading general insurance organisations, which represents the interests of brokers, intermediaries and customers in the sector.

The organisation also provides training and advice on maintaining a high standard of quality working practices to insurance brokers across industrial, commercial and consumer areas.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18333881-ADNFCR
